Some love stories don’t need a big production to feel huge.
Samantha and William eloped in San Francisco, California on August 30, 2025, and their day was the perfect mix of timeless romance and “this is so us” adventure. They’d been together for over a decade before getting married, and you could feel that deep, steady connection in every moment—calm, confident, and completely in sync.
If you’re planning a San Francisco City Hall elopement and want it to feel both iconic and personal, their day is a perfect example of what’s possible when you keep it intimate and intentional.
Getting ready at a downtown San Francisco hotel
We started the day at their hotel in downtown San Francisco, capturing the quiet getting-ready moments before the city energy kicked in. Hotel getting-ready coverage is one of my favorite parts of an elopement because it sets the tone—clean, modern, and full of those in-between moments you don’t want to forget.
After they were ready, we stepped right out into downtown for portraits that felt cinematic and real. We photographed them in the streets as they hailed a taxi, which gave the day a true “San Francisco” feel—stylish, spontaneous, and effortlessly cool.
An intimate San Francisco City Hall ceremony (with Melissa and me as witnesses)
Their ceremony took place inside San Francisco City Hall, one of the most iconic elopement locations in California. The architecture, the light, the scale—it’s unmatched.
And this one was extra special for us: my wife Melissa and I were their witnesses. It was intimate, meaningful, and personal in the best way—just the two of them (and a tiny circle of support) in one of the most beautiful buildings in San Francisco.
Epic portraits on the iconic City Hall staircase
After the ceremony, we leaned all the way into what City Hall does best: epic portraits.
We created classic images on the massive staircase, then moved through the interior to capture variety—clean architectural lines, grand archways, and soft window light that gives everything that timeless, editorial feel.
One of my favorite creative moments from their gallery is a photo collage in the elevators—modern, stylish, and a perfect contrast to the historic elegance of the building. We also captured them exiting through the main glass doors, which gave us that iconic “just married” energy with San Francisco right outside waiting for them.
In-N-Out portraits (because why not?)
After City Hall, we switched from elegant to playful and made a stop at In-N-Out. This is exactly the kind of detail that makes an elopement feel like your story instead of a generic template.
The photos are fun, real, and full of personality—something they’ll laugh about forever, and honestly? Those are the photos that become favorites years later.
Sunset photos at the San Francisco Pier
From there, we headed to the San Francisco Pier for sunset portraits. The light was warm, the city felt alive, and the whole pace of the day slowed down in the best way—just the two of them soaking it all in.
Sunset by the water in San Francisco has a vibe that’s hard to beat: romantic, cinematic, and a little nostalgic—perfect for celebrating a decade-long love story.
Ending the night with skyline portraits in the hotel skybridge
We finished their elopement story back at the hotel in one of the coolest spots: the skybridge hallway with glass walls. The sunset sky showed through the windows, and we were able to feature the San Francisco skyline behind them—an ending that felt modern, stylish, and unmistakably SF.
It’s a perfect reminder that you don’t need a long travel day to create variety. With the right plan, you can have:
classic City Hall portraits
downtown street moments
iconic SF waterfront sunset photos
and a stylish architectural finale
…all in one elopement.
