Sterling Hills Wedding in Camarillo, CA | Amanda + Robert
Sterling Hills Golf Club
Camarillo, CA

Amanda and Robert’s Sterling Hills wedding in Camarillo, California was the kind of day that reminds me exactly why I love photographing weddings at this venue. The weather was absolutely perfect, around 75 degrees with clear skies, and the mountain views behind the golf course created a beautiful Southern California backdrop from start to finish.
This wedding was especially meaningful for me because Amanda booked me long before I officially became a preferred photographer at Sterling Hills Golf Club. Since becoming a preferred vendor there last November, this was my first wedding back at Sterling Hills in that role, which made documenting Amanda and Robert’s day feel even more special. Their wedding was joyful, emotional, family-centered, and full of personality, and I delivered 192 next-day sneak peeks so they could start reliving it right away.
A meaningful start to the day at Sterling Hills
I began the day with Robert and his groomsmen. Robert is a Navy veteran, so one of the standout groom details was his cufflinks featuring the Navy emblem. There were also great moments with his best man helping him with his jacket, plus strong black-and-white portraits with his groomsmen and his two sons that felt timeless and masculine.
Amanda’s details told such a personal story. Her flat lay included her rings, his ring, both vow books, their save the date, Miss Dior perfume, Creed cologne, and one especially meaningful heirloom: a heart-shaped bracelet that opened to reveal a photo of Amanda’s late father. She also wore custom white Jordans decorated with pearls, with “Mrs. Garcia” on one shoe and their wedding date, 05.29.2026, on the other. Those details made the gallery feel uniquely theirs.
Emotional getting ready moments and beautiful first looks
Amanda’s getting-ready portion of the day had such a good energy. We captured a few posed hair and makeup photos, her dress hanging on a custom hanger, and all of the laughter and anticipation that naturally filled the room.
Once she was dressed, the emotional moments really began. Her maid of honor Megan helped her with her shoes, and Amanda shared a sweet first look with her children and stepchildren. She also carried a small framed photo of her late father attached to her bouquet, along with a heartfelt message for him, which made several moments throughout the day especially moving.
The bridesmaids’ first look was full of excitement and genuine reaction, and then came Amanda and Robert’s first look. Robert’s reaction was pure joy. Those photos feel tender, happy, and full of that “we finally made it” energy that couples never want to forget.
A Sterling Hills ceremony with mountain views and heartfelt tributes
Sterling Hills is already one of the most beautiful wedding venues in Ventura County, but on this day it looked especially incredible. The ceremony details included a welcome mirror, elegant floral styling, and a reserved chair honoring Amanda’s father, celebrating with them in heaven.
The processional was beautiful, and one especially emotional moment was seeing Amanda kiss the frame of her dad during the ceremony. These are the kinds of moments that make a wedding gallery feel deeply personal, not just visually beautiful.
With the mountains visible behind the golf course and the weather staying clear all day, the entire ceremony felt open, warm, and full of life.
Family, bridal party, and creative portraits at Sterling Hills
After the ceremony, we moved into family portraits and bridal party photos. One especially meaningful image was Robert with his groomsman Danny, who served in the Navy with him for many years.
Melissa, my wife and second photographer, covered cocktail hour, where she captured the guests enjoying the atmosphere along with a few fun details, including an audio guestbook phone and a caricature artist, which were both fantastic additions.
We also created one of my favorite images of the day using the ceremony welcome mirror: the bridal party stood around it while Amanda and Robert kissed in the reflection. It’s such a bold, creative image and one of those photos that feels both modern and timeless.
For the groomsmen portraits, I leaned into Robert’s playlist and the whole 90s and 2000s hip-hop and R&B energy he created for the day. I laid flat on the grass and photographed the guys standing over the camera looking down, and the result came out incredibly cool.
Black, silver, Raiders-inspired reception style
Inside the reception at Sterling Hills Golf Club, Amanda and Robert brought in black and silver details inspired by their love for the Las Vegas Raiders. The reception space looked clean, stylish, and high-energy from the start.
Their first dance was one of the most memorable moments of the day. As Robert lifted Amanda, DJ Pablo’s smoke machine softened the scene, and a stream of sunlight came through the window and landed right on them. It was one of those rare, magical moments where everything lines up perfectly. The image feels emotional and cinematic, and truly looked like Amanda’s dad was there with them in that moment.
Amanda also did a bouquet dedication to her mother, and the couple made time to photograph every guest table with them, which is always such a thoughtful touch and gives every guest a photo they can treasure.
Sunset portraits with color, mountains, and moonlight
Sterling Hills is already known for its views, but sunset took everything to another level. Amanda and Robert’s sunset portraits were absolutely stunning.
We created epic silhouettes with the sky turning purple, pink, and orange, including a frame where they walked toward each other from opposite sides of the image until they met in the middle. Then we turned and used the moon in the background for another dramatic portrait. I also used off-camera flash with my Profoto A10 to keep the mountains visible in the background while still making the two of them stand out.
One of the most romantic photos from the day was a black-and-white image of them kissing under the veil. It has such a soft, intimate feeling and balances perfectly with some of the more high-energy images from the reception.
A packed dance floor and the perfect ending
The energy at this wedding never dropped. After speeches from the maid of honor and father of the groom, plus emotional parent dances, the dance floor completely exploded.
Guests of all ages were dancing all night. There were somersaults, breakdancing, pop locking, shuffling, and nonstop movement from start to finish. Amanda even changed into a white reception skirt, which made the later dance floor photos feel even more playful and fun.
The night ended with a grand exit using LED streamer sticks, which created such a lively, celebratory finish as Amanda and Robert ran through together.
